Sharing a Folder and Images on Google Drive
Google Drive is a convenient way to share files and images with remote collaborators when working on website design projects for example. It allows you to upload and share large files, avoiding the hassle of searching through emails or switching between devices.
Plus, the mobile app makes it simple to upload and share photos on the go.
To make sure sharing works smoothly, keep these two tips in mind:
- Organize your files with clear folder structures and subfolders.
- Name your files in a way that makes sense to everyone. Even if a file is clear to you, others might need more context, so be specific and descriptive.
Here's how to create and share a folder on Google Drive from your desktop. (Similar steps apply if you're using the Google Drive mobile app.)
Time Needed: 8 minutes
Total Cost: AUD 0.00
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Open Google Drive
Open your browser and go to Google. Click the Google Apps menu (top right) and select 'Drive', or go directly to https://drive.google.com/.
Sign in to your Google account if needed.
2. Navigate to 'My Drive'
Once Drive loads, click on 'My Drive' on the left sidebar. You can expand the triangle next to 'My Drive' to see all your folders. Choose the location where you want to create the folder, ensuring you're okay sharing everything within it.
3. Create a New Folder
Click the large '+ New' button (top left), then select 'Folder'. Give your new folder a name that will make sense to others. Tip: You can add a suffix to the folder name to make it clear that it's yours.
After you create the folder, you’ll see it appear in your Drive. Make sure it’s in the right location and named appropriately.
4. Share the Folder
5. Invite Others
In the sharing menu, add the email addresses of the people you want to share the folder with. You can also include a message. By default, they’ll have Editor access, meaning they can add files and folders too. Click 'Send'.
Once shared, you’ll notice small icons next to the folder name indicating it’s being shared with others. They’ll receive an email notification and any subfolders created within this shared folder will automatically be shared too.
And that’s it—you’re all set!
